This year we will be helping out the San Diego Fisher House with landscaping needs.  Located on the grounds of Navy Medical Center San Diego, the Fisher House provides a “home away from home” in times of a medical crisis for our Nation’s Heroes and their families.  This project involves leveling planting areas, putting down weed retardant and wood chips, and putting in some new plantings. Our goal is to remove the grass/weeds and dead plants, replace with drought resistant plants, and finally, cover the entire area with a weed barrier and some decorative rocks.

Transportation is provided.  Check in from 1130 – 1200 at the Charity Raffle location.  Shuttle bus will pick up in front driveway outside of Halls G/H and departure at 1230, to return back by 1730.

PDI Charity Raffle

All PDI attendees are invited to participate in this year’s PDI Charity Raffle. This year’s raffle will benefit Shelter to Soldier.

Shelter to Soldier is a CA 501c3 nonprofit organization that adopts dogs from local shelters and trains them to become psychiatric service dogs for post-9/11 combat veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and/or other injuries associated with traumatic service experiences.  Every year, our nation sees approximately 7.6 million animals enter shelters.  Their team’s expertise in training service dogs is unmatched in the field and provides a great platform for them to use these talents to serve our military personnel in honor of their service to our country. The sponsored service dog will serve the critical role of psychological support to his/her veteran handler.

CDFM Reception

We love to celebrate our CDFMs and CDFM-As! Come join us Thursday, June 1, from 6-7:30 pm at the beautiful Hilton Bayfront Hotel Promenade Plaza, just steps away from the San Diego Conference Center. We will serve you complimentary hors d’oeuvres and drinks, and laud you with honor!

Many thanks to IBM for sponsoring this prestigious, invitation-only event! Attendance is limited to those who have active CDFM or CDFM-A certification, to include Certified Retired CDFM/As. If your certification has lapsed and you would like to reactivate it, please write certification@asmconline.org, call (703) 549-0360, or go to the CDFM Table onsite at PDI for assistance.

The designation “CDFM”, “CDFM-A”, “CDFM Ret”, or “CDFM-A Ret” on your name badge is your invitation; however, those who complete their certification requirements at PDI before the Reception are also invited! (Candidates expecting to complete the CDFM at PDI should be sure to submit their VFME form before attending PDI, so passing the exams is the last of the requirements.)

Registration is not required but helps us estimate catering needs. To register, log in to the PDI Registration Update site, click on “Register for Special Events”, check the box for “CDFM Reception at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel Promenade Plaza”, then click “Save Changes.”

CDFM Pilot Testing

ASMC is in the process of updating the CDFM exams. To date, subject matter experts have helped us update the exam blueprints, weight the competency areas, review existing exam items (questions), write many new exam items, and finalize pilot exams. We now need active CDFMs and CDFM-As to field test the pilot exams, so we can determine which questions to include on the updated exam!

Who can participate?
Active CDFMs and CDFM-As can take the Module 1, 2, and 3 pilot exams. Only CDFM-As can take the Module 4 Pilot Exam.

What can I expect?
There is a paper-and-pencil pilot exam for each module (Module 1–Resource Management Environment, Module 2–Budget and Cost Analysis, Module 3–Accounting and Finance, Module 4–Acquisition Business Management.). Each pilot exam has 100 multiple-choice items and typically takes 1.5 hours to complete. No study preparation is necessary–we are asking all pilot testers to take the exams cold turkey. To finish the process, complete an emailed post-test survey. Pilot testing has no impact on certification status.

When and where can I test?
A proctor will be available Wednesday 0700-1600, Thursday 0700-1600, and Friday 0700-1200 in Upper Level, Room 22 (the Study Room) of the San Diego Convention Center. No reservations are needed—just show up and take any of the exams you are eligible for when it is convenient for you.

What will I receive in return?
After the emailed post-test survey is completed, you will receive an electronic certificate with 3 CPE/CET for each pilot exam. Additionally, you will have the satisfaction of actively supporting ASMC’s Certification Program in keeping the CDFM exams current and relevant.

When will the new exams roll out?
We do not yet have a solid timeline. We are currently updating the textbooks, as well, which will be released before the updated exams. Once a final release date is determined, we will employ social media and email blasts for notification. However, we do not expect to launch the new exams before the end of the calendar year.
