AF Workshops: Course Descriptions

AF 01 Inflation and Price Indices
Time: 1400-1450
Dr. Andrew Wallen, SAF/FMCEE

“The cost of maintaining our armed forces at adequate strength to deter war has steadily increased in recent years. This upward trend is likely to continue in the years ahead.” – Neil H. McElroy, Semiannual Report of the Secretary of Defense, Jan. 1 – Jun. 30, 1958

The challenges faced by Secretary McElroy continue today.  Sound practices in the application of escalation and inflation are required in order to understand the extent of those challenges.  This course will describe the basic concepts underlying inflation and escalation and then provide an update on how those concepts have been promulgated and applied in the DoD since the 2015 change to the Inflation Guidance.
